One of the bigger challenges of any historical expedition, whether in a library or on-site, is the fact that human history is created and recorded by humans. Not only that, but much of history is dominated by the viewpoint of the people who considered themselves to be the winners.

You can imagine the surprise that someone of Norse heritage might have when discovering that King Atli, revered in their own heritage, was the same person known in other places as Atilla The Hun. Some of the most sober and somber of one religious group seem to have a hard time remembering that their movement began with a man who appears to have really known how to party! The list goes on.

The challenge is to find the actual human being within the historical figure.

Blessed Be!
